*Not Accepting This Title One of gospel music's first female rockers, Margaret Becker abandons her rock roots for an adult contemporary/pop sound on her 1999 release, What Kind of Love. While Becker's vocals are still unmistakably rock in nature, musically the album combines upbeat pop rhythms with subtle jazz and blues influences. The album's first radio single, ‘Friend for Life,’ opens the project in soft acoustic guitar rhythms, which soon develop into an adult contemporary style with a slightly unbalanced beat. ‘Worlds Apart’ is heavily driven by its rolling tempo and features a somewhat mystical sound, while ‘Hope for a Hopeless World’ is unquestionably a combination of blues and jazz. ~ Ashleigh Kittle, All Music Guide |
